About Us

History of Golden Optometric Group

Golden Optometric Group was founded in 1959 by Sheldon M. Golden, OD following his graduation from U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry. He started practicing optometry in a small office located inside the US Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego. In 1960 he was given the opportunity to open an office inside the ServMart/CAL Stores at the corner of Washington Blvd. and Rosemead Blvd. in Pico Rivera, CA.

In 1972, Dr. Sheldon Golden moved his practice to its current location on Washington Blvd. in Whittier, CA. Two years later he purchased his second CAL Stores practice in West Covina, CA. Debbie Warren, our current Corporate Manager, was hired in 1976, and they moved the office into the West Covina Fashion Plaza.

Dr. David Golden, Sheldon's middle son, joined the practice in 1987, primarily working in the West Covina location. David expanded the practice several times in the mall location before moving the practice to its current location in January, 2006. Today, Golden Optometric Group operates two of the largest practices in the San Gabriel Valley and is proud to have two affiliate locations: South Gate Optometry and Del Rey Optometry:

Our centralized laboratory, with over 2000 prescription lenses in stock and computerized pattern-less edging technology, allows our practices to quickly and accurately deliver the finest quality eyeglasses to our patients in the shortest possible time...sometimes in a matter of minutes!

From our humble beginnings inside the US Grant Hotel, to one of the most respected optometry practices in the country, Golden Optometric Group has grown to be a proud family of doctors and staff delivering the finest quality family eye care for over 50 years.
